All of us got hit pretty hard and we all currently live in a very uncertain situation… As a result most of the Have-a-Heart Namibia‘s teams are on hold, as so many are at the moment. But – of course with respecting all safety measurements and restrictions – we will as always keep on trying to help as much as we can!
The dogs and cats of the owners in Namibia’s poorer communities are still in need of our support – if now not more than ever! Lots of caring and loving owners in Namibia do worry a lot about their pet and by helping as much as we still can, we not only stop suffering, we also can take at least some worries of off people’s shoulders!
Just one example: one of our very much cared for “old customers”, beautiful Clowey, had an accident and dislocated one of her back legs. Her owners love Clowey very much but wouldn’t be able to afford the emergency operation, especially not in the current situation. Thanks to Animal-Kind International‘s emergency fund, Clowey doesn’t need to suffer! She got everything she needed and will be painfree and up and running very soon <3
Updates from different towns:
Unfortunately Have-a-Heart Windhoek had to postpone the planned spay days for beginning of April, but with so many people coming together to help, there was sadly no other option. A new date will be set as soon as possible!
The Have-a-Heart Walvis Bay team managed to trap 3 feral cats in March. The cats received a health check, the sterilisation, parasite treatment and vaccination against rabies. The Walvis Team will keep on trapping as soon as possible!
We already posted an update from the Karibib Feral Cat program last time, but we got some really cute pictures and a little bit of “background information” from Jette and posted them for you 🙂
In Okahandja we managed to have in total 21 cats operated in March! This is fantastic and will hopefully have at least a small impact on the cat population!
In Swakopmund the Have a Heart team was super busy and were able to help 21 female dogs, 11 male dogs, 2 female cats and 1 male cat with sterilisation, parasite treatment and vaccination! Also 4 dogs received their treatment against TVT. One dog was diagnosed with tick bite fever, got medication described and is feeling so much better now! Thanks again Feed a Paw Project / Madelaine Strydom for all the support with the transport of the dogs and cats to the clinic and back home!
In Omaruru the team was sadly unable to do their usual weekly routine, but they were still busy! The team painted and sealed the seven transport/trapping boxes (thanks again so much Something Woody Carpentry for donating the boxes!!). The boxes will have to work a lot for many years, treating them nicely is essential 🙂 And also the team made sure that dog Lucy finished her much needed treatment. Lucy had been sterilised a few weeks ago and Dr Estelle diagnosed her with mamary gland tumors and TVT. Lucy is now doing so much better, she gained weight and enjoys life again. Lucy is only 1.5 years old and thanks to everyone who supports Have a Heart, Lucy will now be able to live the happy and healthy life she deserves!
